Pete Semehen is a Tofino-based watercolour artist specializing in scientific illustration, working across painting, graphic design, and mixed media. His inspiration comes directly from the coast: the marine life, flora, and fauna of the place he calls home, explored through time spent surfing, fishing, and moving through the landscape.

This piece began last winter, when a salmon shark washed up on Long Beach in near perfect condition. Pete was able to visit it in person, getting a rare close look at one of these marvellous creatures. The painting grew from that encounter.
